Production of Primary Cells And Primary Batteries in Latin America and the Caribbean
In value terms, primary cells and primary batteries production expanded slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 57% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the amount of primary cells and primary batteries exported in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at X units, almost unchanged from 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, saw a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 27%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, primary cells and primary batteries exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. Exports by Country
Brazil was the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which accounted for 42% of total exports. Costa Rica (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 21% share, followed by Guatemala (10%), Mexico (9.2%), Chile (6.3%), the Dominican Republic (5.7%) and Peru (4.8%).
Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Chile (+33.4%), the Dominican Republic (+11.0%), Mexico (+7.5%) and Costa Rica (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +33.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Guatemala (-8.4%) and Peru (-11.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+16 p.p.), Costa Rica (+11 p.p.), Chile (+6 p.p.), Mexico (+5.5 p.p.) and the Dominican Republic (+4.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Peru and Guatemala saw its share reduced by -7.9% and -9.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest primary cells and primary batteries supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico stood at +4.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+4.9% per year) and Chile (+13.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, growing by 31% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+11.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of primary cells and primary batteries, when their volume decreased by -3.1% to X units. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 16%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country
In 2022, Brazil (X units) and Mexico (X units) were the major importers of primary cells and primary batteries in Latin America and the Caribbean, together amounting to near 44% of total imports. Argentina (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Peru (8.4%), Colombia (6.9%), Chile (5.9%) and Haiti (5.1%).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Haiti (with a CAGR of +21.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported primary cells and primary batteries in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 6.9% share.
In Mexico, primary cells and primary batteries imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-1.2% per year) and Argentina (-1.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Haiti ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
