Printing Ink Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, the Latin American printing ink market increased by 0.8% to $X, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, exports of printing ink in Latin America and the Caribbean rose to X tons, with an increase of 4.2% compared with the year before. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 6.6% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, printing ink exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a noticeable descent. In value terms, Brazil ($X), Costa Rica ($X) and El Salvador ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 50% share of total exports.

Costa Rica, with a CAGR of +34.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 1.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Costa Rica (+13.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

Printing ink imports dropped slightly to X tons in 2022, falling by -1.7% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 22%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, printing ink imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Mexico (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) represented roughly 50% of total imports in 2022. Guatemala (X tons) took an 8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (5.7%), Peru (5.6%), Colombia (5.1%) and Chile (4.9%). Ecuador (X tons), El Salvador (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and Honduras (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Chile, Guatemala, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Honduras lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

Among the main importing countries, Honduras, with a CAGR of +6.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
