Rare Earth Metal Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, the Latin American rare earth metal market increased by 9.9% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, consumption showed pronounced growth. In general, exports saw a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 25,700%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, rare earth metal exports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a sharp descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 60,278%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from Peru (X kg), together finishing at 100% of total export.

Peru was also the fastest-growing in terms of the rare earth metals exports, with a CAGR of -5.3% from 2012 to 2021. Peru (+99 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Rare earth metal imports surged to X tons in 2021, rising by 194% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, rare earth metal imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 62% of total imports. Argentina (X tons) took a 27% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Paraguay (11%).
