In Mexico, raspberry and blackberry production expanded at an average annual rate of +11.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Chile (-0.8% per year) and Guatemala (+1.0% per year).

In 2022, the average yield of raspberries and blackberries in Latin America and the Caribbean expanded rapidly to X tons per ha, picking up by 10% against the previous year. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the yield increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the raspberry and blackberry yield attained the maximum level at X tons per ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, the raspberry and blackberry harvested area in Latin America and the Caribbean shrank modestly to X ha, waning by -2.8% against 2021. In general, the harvested area, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to raspberry and blackberry production reached the peak figure at X ha in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, overseas shipments of raspberries and blackberries increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 90%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 30%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Mexico prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Guatemala (X tons), committing a 4.9% share of total exports.

Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the raspberries and blackberries exports, with a CAGR of +8.2% from 2012 to 2022. Guatemala experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Mexico (+5.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Guatemala (-5.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -7.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 70% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Guatemala totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+5.6%).

Raspberry And Blackberry Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, approx. X tons of raspberries and blackberries were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; which is down by -3.4% against the year before. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 62%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports fell to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Imports by Country

Bahamas (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) were the major importers of raspberries and blackberries in 2022, amounting to approx. 28% and 21% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Trinidad and Tobago (X tons), Jamaica (X tons), El Salvador (X tons), Antigua and Barbuda (X tons), Barbados (X tons) and Panama (X tons), together mixing up a 35% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Jamaica (with a CAGR of +16.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Bahamas ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported raspberries and blackberries in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Panama, with a 12% share.

In Bahamas, raspberry and blackberry imports increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+4.1% per year) and Panama (+23.1% per year).
