Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, shipments abroad of raw hides and skins of bovine animals increased by 39% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after four years of decline. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cows skin exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 74%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Mexico (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and Venezuela (X tons) represented roughly 73% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Panama (X tons), creating a 5.6% share of total exports. Argentina (X tons), Brazil (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons) and Cuba (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Nicaragua (with a CAGR of +68.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X), Venezuela ($X) and Guatemala ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Mexico, with a CAGR of +47.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -2.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 13%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nicaragua ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, purchases abroad of raw hides and skins of bovine animals decreased by -71.1% to X tons, falling for the seventh year in a row after three years of growth. In general, imports saw a dramatic contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 8.7%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cows skin imports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a sharp descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 6% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Mexico represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 45% of total imports. Brazil (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 28% share, followed by Guatemala (7.9%), Uruguay (6.3%) and Peru (5.9%). El Salvador (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, the largest cows skin importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Peru ($X), together comprising 61% of total imports.
Peru, with a CAGR of -5.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -10.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable decrease.
