Refined cotton-seed oil exports dropped to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -14.8% on 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 245% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, refined cotton-seed oil exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 227% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Argentina represented the largest exporter of refined cotton-seed oil in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 78% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), committing a 22% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to refined cotton-seed oil exports from Argentina stood at +3.3%. At the same time, Brazil (+17.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 48% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Argentina totaled $X per ton.

For the third year in a row, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded decline in supplies from abroad of refined cotton-seed oil, which decreased by -54.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a sharp setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 29%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, refined cotton-seed oil imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports faced a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 27%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Mexico was the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 44% of total imports. Uruguay (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Brazil (X tons). All these countries together took near 54% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Uruguay (with a CAGR of +88.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Uruguay ($X) and Brazil ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 97% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Uruguay, with a CAGR of +103.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, rising by 54% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 62%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+10.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
