Register Book Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

After two years of decline, the Latin American register book market increased by 3.3% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 6.9%. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, register book production declined modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 7.2%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, approx. X tons of registers, account books, order books and receipt books were exported in Latin America and the Caribbean; growing by 18% on the year before. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 48%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, register book exports stood at $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Mexico dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 69% of total exports in 2022. Brazil (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons). All these countries together took near 18% share of total exports. El Salvador (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Honduras (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -6.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Trinidad and Tobago (+2.2%) and Guatemala (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Trinidad and Tobago emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +2.2% from 2012-2022. El Salvador experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Brazil (-4.4%), Honduras (-6.4%) and Colombia (-17.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala, El Salvador and Brazil increased by +8.3, +3.6, +3.2, +2.6 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest register book supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports. It was followed by El Salvador, with a 7.5% share.

In Mexico, register book exports decreased by an average annual rate of -5.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-5.3% per year) and El Salvador (+7.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -3.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Honduras ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by El Salvador (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Register Book Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, purchases abroad of registers, account books, order books and receipt books increased by 36% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, register book imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Mexico (X tons), distantly followed by Chile (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Costa Rica (X tons) were the key importers of registers, account books, order books and receipt books, together committing 57% of total imports. The following importers - Peru (X tons), Haiti (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons), Bolivia (X tons), Belize (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) - together made up 27% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belize (with a CAGR of +13.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Chile ($X) and Brazil ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 50% share of total imports. Peru, Colombia, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Argentina, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Haiti, Bolivia and Belize lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

Among the main importing countries, Guatemala, with a CAGR of +4.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -7.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 27%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per ton), while Belize ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
