Brazil prevails in exports structure, recording X units, which was near 86% of total exports in 2021. Argentina (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Chile (X units) and Peru (X units). All these countries together held approx. 14% share of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the root or tuber harvesting machines exports, with a CAGR of +37.9% from 2012 to 2021. Argentina, Chile and Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Brazil (+61 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Argentina, Chile and Peru saw its share reduced by -20.2%, -20.2% and -20.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest harvesting machinery supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Peru, with a 3.8% share.

Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a significant decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 21%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per unit), while Chile ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, overseas purchases of root or tuber harvesting machines increased by 25% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +42.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 51%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, harvesting machinery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +65.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 49%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Argentina (X units), Chile (X units) and Brazil (X units) represented roughly 85% of total imports in 2021. The following importers - Paraguay (X units), Uruguay (X units), Bolivia (X units) and Cuba (X units) - together made up 11% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Paraguay (with a CAGR of +22.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Argentina ($X), Chile ($X) and Brazil ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 92% of total imports. Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Cuba lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 4.3%.

Among the main importing countries, Paraguay, with a CAGR of +34.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, leveling off in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Cuba ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
