Coniferous Roundwood Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Latin American coniferous roundwood market totaled $X in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.
Coniferous Roundwood Production in Latin America and the Caribbean
In value terms, coniferous roundwood production expanded slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, posted prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 103% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, shipments abroad of roundwood (coniferous) decreased by -18.8% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 161%. The volume of export peaked at X cubic meters in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
In value terms, coniferous roundwood exports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 184%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Uruguay dominates exports structure, finishing at X cubic meters, which was near 73% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X cubic meters), Brazil (X cubic meters) and Chile (X cubic meters), together achieving a 25% share of total exports. Costa Rica (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Uruguay was also the fastest-growing in terms of the roundwood (coniferous) exports, with a CAGR of +39.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Brazil (+36.8%) and Chile (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Costa Rica (-7.8%) and Argentina (-32.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uruguay (+44 p.p.), Argentina (+9.8 p.p.) and Brazil (+4.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Chile (-17 p.p.) and Costa Rica (-39.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Uruguay ($X) emerged as the largest coniferous roundwood supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 6.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 5% share.
In Uruguay, coniferous roundwood exports expanded at an average annual rate of +56.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Chile (+15.3% per year) and Brazil (+33.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per cubic meter, rising by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 35%. The level of export peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($X per cubic meter), while Argentina ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uruguay (+12.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Coniferous Roundwood Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, approx. X cubic meters of roundwood (coniferous) were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; surging by 54% against the previous year. In general, imports enjoyed mild growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 81%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, coniferous roundwood imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 82%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Bahamas (X cubic meters), distantly followed by Cayman Islands (X cubic meters), Peru (X cubic meters), the Dominican Republic (X cubic meters), Mexico (X cubic meters) and British Virgin Islands (X cubic meters) were the main importers of roundwood (coniferous), together mixing up 92% of total imports. Turks and Caicos Islands (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cayman Islands (with a CAGR of +41.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest coniferous roundwood importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Peru ($X), Bahamas ($X) and Cayman Islands ($X), together accounting for 55% of total imports.
Cayman Islands, with a CAGR of +39.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, which is down by -12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 26%. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per cubic meter), while Bahamas ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
