Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, safety headgear production reduced remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 98%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, safety headgear exports in Latin America and the Caribbean soared to X units, growing by 53% against the year before. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +101.6% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, safety headgear exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 86% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Mexico was the major exporter of safety headgear in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 65% of total exports in 2021. Brazil (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Colombia (X units). All these countries together held near 30% share of total exports. Chile (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Colombia (+16.3%) and Brazil (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +16.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-13.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mexico (+31 p.p.) and Colombia (+6.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Brazil (-10.4 p.p.) and Chile (-16.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest safety headgear supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 9.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico stood at +17.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+19.0% per year) and Brazil (+1.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -31.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed pronounced growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 75%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Chile ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Safety Headgear Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, overseas purchases of safety headgear increased by 29% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -10.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, safety headgear imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Mexico (X units) represented the major importer of safety headgear, comprising 37% of total imports. Brazil (X units) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (11%), Chile (8.6%), Peru (5.7%) and Guatemala (4.8%). Argentina (X units) and El Salvador (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the safety headgear imports, with a CAGR of +17.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, El Salvador (+16.8%), Chile (+13.3%), Guatemala (+12.6%), Brazil (+9.9%), Argentina (+9.8%) and Peru (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mexico, Chile, Brazil and Guatemala increased by +21, +3.2, +2.4 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Colombia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Chile, Argentina, Peru, Guatemala and El Salvador lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

El Salvador, with a CAGR of +19.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 35% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per unit), while El Salvador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
