In 2021, overseas shipments of sanitary ware and parts of iron or steel increased by 81% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate modest growth. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
In value terms, iron or steel sanitary ware exports reached $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Mexico dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 87% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Colombia (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Panama (X tons) and the Dominican Republic (X tons) - each resulted at an 8.3% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to iron or steel sanitary ware exports from Mexico stood at +1.8%. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+16.9%) and Colombia (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +16.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Brazil (-1.6%) and Panama (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mexico increased by +2.1 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest iron or steel sanitary ware supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 6.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 2.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+3.3% per year) and Colombia (-5.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -37.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 55% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the Dominican Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Sanitary Ware And Parts Of Iron Or Steel
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, the amount of sanitary ware and parts of iron or steel imported in Latin America and the Caribbean surged to X tons, increasing by 48% on the previous year. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +68.5% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, iron or steel sanitary ware imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Mexico (X tons) and Chile (X tons) represented roughly 48% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Dominican Republic (X tons) and Peru (X tons), together making up a 13% share of total imports. Colombia (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Bolivia (X tons), Jamaica (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), El Salvador (X tons) and Panama (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Jamaica (with a CAGR of +14.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X), Chile ($X) and the Dominican Republic ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 53% of total imports. These countries were followed by Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Jamaica and Bolivia, which together accounted for a further 33%.
Among the main importing countries, Panama, with a CAGR of +22.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, waning by -8.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
