Sawnwood (non-coniferous) exports reduced remarkably to X cubic meters in 2022, shrinking by -81.5% on the year before. In general, exports, however, posted a slight increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 570%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X cubic meters, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
In value terms, sawnwood (non-coniferous) exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Brazil (X cubic meters) represented the major exporter of sawnwood (non-coniferous), making up 38% of total exports. Uruguay (X cubic meters) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Bolivia (X cubic meters), Peru (X cubic meters), Ecuador (X cubic meters) and Guyana (X cubic meters). All these countries together took approx. 46% share of total exports. Panama (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Panama (+152.1%), Bolivia (+9.8%) and Uruguay (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Panama emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +152.1% from 2012-2022. Guyana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Peru (-5.8%) and Ecuador (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Bolivia, Brazil, Guyana, Panama and Uruguay increased by +7, +5.2, +4.7, +2.8 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest sawnwood (non-coniferous) supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 34% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ecuador ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Uruguay, with a 14% share.
In Brazil, sawnwood (non-coniferous) exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ecuador (+0.4% per year) and Uruguay (+11.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, with an increase of 506% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a modest expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per cubic meter), while Panama ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guyana (+12.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, approx. X cubic meters of sawnwood (non-coniferous) were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; with an increase of 39% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports showed a tangible increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sawnwood (non-coniferous) imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Mexico was the largest importing country with an import of about X cubic meters, which finished at 65% of total imports. Chile (X cubic meters) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by the Dominican Republic (9.1%). The following importers - Cuba (X cubic meters), Brazil (X cubic meters) and Jamaica (X cubic meters) - each finished at a 5.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sawnwood (non-coniferous) imports into Mexico stood at +3.5%. At the same time, Chile (+27.0%), Jamaica (+25.2%), the Dominican Republic (+11.9%) and Cuba (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +27.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Brazil (-17.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Chile, the Dominican Republic and Mexico increased by +10, +5.1 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sawnwood (non-coniferous) in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Dominican Republic ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 2.6% share.
In Mexico, sawnwood (non-coniferous) imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Dominican Republic (+9.7% per year) and Chile (+4.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per cubic meter, flattening at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per cubic meter in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
