Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +17.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest scissors and tailor shears supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X), Colombia ($X) and Mexico ($X), with a combined 81% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Chile, Panama, Peru and Guatemala, which together accounted for a further 13%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +18.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of scissors and tailor shears was finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Ecuador (X units), Guyana (X units), El Salvador (X units), Venezuela (X units) and Honduras (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -2.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Guyana (+27.9%), Bolivia (+12.8%), Chile (+10.5%), Peru (+6.1%), Argentina (+3.7%), El Salvador (+3.2%), Honduras (+2.0%) and Guatemala (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guyana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +27.9% from 2012-2021. Ecuador and Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mexico (-4.8%) and Venezuela (-12.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+6.1 p.p.), Bolivia (+5.6 p.p.), Peru (+4.4 p.p.), Guyana (+2 p.p.) and Argentina (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Mexico (-4.1 p.p.), Venezuela (-4.7 p.p.) and Brazil (-4.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest scissors and tailor shears importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Chile ($X), with a combined 57% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Guatemala, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, El Salvador, Honduras and Guyana, which together accounted for a further 33%.

Guyana, with a CAGR of +32.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 9.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Bolivia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
