From 2012 to 2021, the share of Costa Rica and Guatemala increased by +15 and +11 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Guatemala ($X) remains the largest scouring pastes and powders supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Costa Rica ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Guatemala amounted to -3.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Costa Rica (+17.0% per year) and Argentina (-10.1% per year).

In 2021, approx. X tons of scouring pastes and powders were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; which is down by -21.9% on 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, scouring pastes and powders imports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible shrinkage.
