In 2021, the Latin American secateurs market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, saw a noticeable decline. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, exports of secateurs and similar one-handed pruners and shears in Latin America and the Caribbean contracted remarkably to X tons, shrinking by -40.7% compared with 2020. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 140%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

In value terms, secateurs exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 272%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Mexico (X tons) represented the key exporter of secateurs and similar one-handed pruners and shears, generating 64% of total exports. Brazil (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (8.6%). Chile (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to secateurs exports from Mexico stood at -1.6%. At the same time, El Salvador (+19.7%), Brazil (+4.1%), Colombia (+2.5%) and Chile (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, El Salvador emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +19.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador and Mexico increased by +7.8, +2.9, +2.7 and +2.5 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest secateurs supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 7.4% share.

In Mexico, secateurs exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+1.7% per year) and Colombia (+10.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -16.9% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, secateurs export price decreased by -31.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while El Salvador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Secateurs Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, the amount of secateurs and similar one-handed pruners and shears imported in Latin America and the Caribbean surged to X tons, picking up by 55% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a strong expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, secateurs imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Chile represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 32% of total imports. Brazil (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Mexico (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Colombia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 41% share of total imports. Bolivia (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), El Salvador (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and Panama (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the secateurs and similar one-handed pruners and shears imports, with a CAGR of +17.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Guatemala (+12.6%), Ecuador (+11.2%), Bolivia (+9.5%), Costa Rica (+8.9%), Brazil (+8.2%), Peru (+7.9%), Mexico (+7.9%), El Salvador (+7.6%) and Colombia (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Argentina (-1.5%) and Panama (-2.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Chile increased by +15 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest secateurs importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Chile ($X), Mexico ($X) and Brazil ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports. Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Bolivia and Panama lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

Guatemala, with a CAGR of +10.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 4% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
