In 2022, shipments abroad of self-adhesive printed labels increased by 41% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 56%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, self-adhesive printed label exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.2% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Mexico prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 60% of total exports in 2022. Colombia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Dominican Republic (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons). All these countries together held near 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - Brazil (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) - together made up 13% of total exports.

Exports from Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Colombia (+16.5%), Brazil (+15.4%), the Dominican Republic (+7.8%), Guatemala (+3.7%) and El Salvador (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +16.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Costa Rica (-4.5%) and Argentina (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (+9.9 p.p.), Colombia (+5.1 p.p.), Brazil (+2.4 p.p.) and the Dominican Republic (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while El Salvador, Argentina and Costa Rica saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -5.1% and -6.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest self-adhesive printed label supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by El Salvador ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico stood at +7.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: El Salvador (+1.8% per year) and Colombia (+8.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 32%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+8.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, supplies from abroad of self-adhesive printed labels increased by 33% to X tons, rising for the sixth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 46%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, self-adhesive printed label imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

Mexico prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - Peru (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons) and Honduras (X tons) - together made up 12% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to self-adhesive printed label imports into Mexico stood at -2.4%. At the same time, Peru (+15.4%), Nicaragua (+13.5%), Guatemala (+5.3%) and the Dominican Republic (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +15.4% from 2012-2022. Honduras experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Peru and Guatemala increased by +2.6 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported self-adhesive printed labels in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Dominican Republic ($X), with a 7.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Nicaragua, with a 5.9% share.
