Silver Nitrate Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Latin American silver nitrate market fell to $X in 2021, shrinking by -5.6% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, overseas shipments of silver nitrate decreased by -63.1% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports showed a precipitous decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silver nitrate exports fell markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a precipitous shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 20%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Guatemala (X kg) was the main exporter of silver nitrate, making up 51% of total exports. Peru (X kg) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 34% share, followed by Brazil (13%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Guatemala (with a CAGR of +77.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, Peru ($X) emerged as the largest silver nitrate supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.

In Peru, silver nitrate exports declined by an average annual rate of -12.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-50.6% per year) and Guatemala (+127.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 44% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep downturn. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+27.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Silver Nitrate Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

For the third year in a row, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded decline in supplies from abroad of silver nitrate, which decreased by -9.9% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silver nitrate imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 44%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons), distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the key importers of silver nitrate, together making up 78% of total imports. The following importers - Argentina (X kg), Cuba (X kg), Guatemala (X kg), El Salvador (X kg), Colombia (X kg) and Peru (X kg) - together made up 16% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Guatemala (with a CAGR of +20.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Chile ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 84% of total imports.

Brazil, with a CAGR of +26.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 32% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Nicaragua ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+15.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
