In 2022, Panama (X units), Brazil (X units) and Mexico (X units) represented the key exporter of slates and boards with writing or drawing surfaces in Latin America and the Caribbean, mixing up 84% of total export. It was distantly followed by Chile (X units), comprising a 4.8% share of total exports. The Dominican Republic (X units) and El Salvador (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Among the main exporting countries, the Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +30.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 22% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Panama (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, approx. X units of slates and boards with writing or drawing surfaces were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; surging by 5.3% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, drawing board imports declined to $X in 2022. In value terms, the largest drawing board importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Chile ($X) and the Dominican Republic ($X), with a combined 47% share of total imports. Brazil, Nicaragua, Peru, Panama, Argentina, Costa Rica, Colombia and Bolivia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Nicaragua, with a CAGR of +27.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -11.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per unit), while Nicaragua ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
