Spinach Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

The average spinach yield reduced to X tons per ha in 2022, dropping by -14% on the previous year. Over the period under review, the yield showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the yield increased by 33%. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha, and then declined in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, approx. X ha of spinach were harvested in Latin America and the Caribbean; growing by 16% compared with the previous year's figure. In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of spinach, when their volume decreased by -11.2% to X tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, spinach exports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 208%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Mexico (X tons), together resulting at 98% of total export.
Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the spinach exports, with a CAGR of +13.8% from 2012 to 2022. Mexico (+3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) also remains the largest spinach supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 14% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 79%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Mexico.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, imports of spinach in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at X tons, growing by 12% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 147%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, spinach imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 120%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Mexico dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 91% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - Bahamas (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) - together made up 4.7% of total imports.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported spinach in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bahamas ($X), with a 1.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico stood at +27.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bahamas (+2.9% per year) and El Salvador (+18.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -2.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while El Salvador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by El Salvador (+17.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
