The total production indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -2.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, overseas shipments of spindles and spindle flyers, spinning ring and ring travellers increased by 36% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 490% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, spindles and spindle flyer exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 694%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Jamaica was the largest exporter of spindles and spindle flyers, spinning ring and ring travellers in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports recording X kg, which was approx. 51% of total exports in 2022. Brazil (X kg) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 21% share, followed by Panama (6.2%), Peru (6.1%) and Honduras (5.1%). Ecuador (X kg) and Suriname (X kg) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Jamaica was also the fastest-growing in terms of the spindles and spindle flyers, spinning ring and ring travellers exports, with a CAGR of +78.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Honduras (+17.2%), Peru (+13.9%), Ecuador (+12.2%) and Brazil (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Panama and Suriname experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Jamaica (+51 p.p.), Honduras (+5.1 p.p.), Suriname (+2.4 p.p.) and Peru (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Panama (-8.4 p.p.) and Brazil (-12.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Jamaica ($X) emerged as the largest spindles and spindle flyer supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Panama, with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Jamaica stood at +139.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+2.9% per year) and Panama (+9.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 27% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a modest increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 35% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Suriname ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jamaica (+34.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, supplies from abroad of spindles and spindle flyers, spinning ring and ring travellers increased by 23% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 24%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, spindles and spindle flyer imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Brazil (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) represented roughly 58% of total imports in 2022. El Salvador (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.9% share, followed by Peru (8.5%), Guatemala (7.3%) and Argentina (5.7%). Honduras (X kg) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by El Salvador (with a CAGR of +12.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Peru ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Argentina, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Guatemala, with a CAGR of +6.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 16%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (+8.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
