In 2021, overseas shipments of splitting, slicing or paring machines were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 1,206%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wood slicing machine exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 183% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Panama prevails in exports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 79% of total exports in 2021. Brazil (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Dominican Republic (X units). All these countries together took near 16% share of total exports. Mexico (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

Panama was also the fastest-growing in terms of the splitting, slicing or paring machines exports, with a CAGR of +24.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mexico (+24.0%) and Brazil (+10.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. The Dominican Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Panama (+25 p.p.), the Dominican Republic (+7.8 p.p.) and Mexico (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Brazil (-8.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest wood slicing machine supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 0.4% share of total exports. It was followed by the Dominican Republic, with a 0.1% share.

In Brazil, wood slicing machine exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (+37.4% per year) and the Dominican Republic (+50.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, falling by -41.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price faced a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 130%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Panama ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (-5.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of splitting, slicing or paring machines, when their volume increased by 25% to X units. Overall, imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 302% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wood slicing machine imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 209% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Honduras, with a CAGR of +52.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 74% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 163%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per unit), while Paraguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
