Colombia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 9.9% share.

In 2022, the average yield of strawberries in Latin America and the Caribbean dropped slightly to X tons per ha, with a decrease of -3.4% on the year before. In general, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 12%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, the harvested area of strawberries in Latin America and the Caribbean rose significantly to X ha, picking up by 5.2% on the year before. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the harvested area increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to strawberry production attained the peak figure at X ha in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, exports of strawberries in Latin America and the Caribbean rose rapidly to X tons, with an increase of 10% against 2021 figures. Overall, exports recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 60%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, strawberry exports rose notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 38%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Mexico prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 97% of total exports in 2022. Guatemala (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the strawberries exports, with a CAGR of +5.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Guatemala (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Mexico (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest strawberry supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Guatemala ($X), with a 0.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico stood at +14.0%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 60% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Guatemala amounted to $X per ton.

Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +90.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, strawberry imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 32%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Mexico prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 86% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by El Salvador (X tons), making up a 6.9% share of total imports.
