Panama prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2021. Mexico (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from Panama decreased at an average annual rate of -33.4% from 2012 to 2021. Mexico (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mexico (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Panama (-5.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Panama ($X) remains the largest sulphonamides supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 0.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Panama stood at -23.5%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 172%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per ton), while Mexico stood at $X per ton.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, purchases abroad of sulphonamides increased by 6.1% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a sharp downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sulphonamides imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Brazil (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) dominates imports structure, together achieving 84% of total imports. Colombia (X tons) took a 4.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mexico (4.5%). Cuba (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Argentina (with a CAGR of +41.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Argentina ($X) and Mexico ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 93% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Argentina, with a CAGR of +25.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, declining by -10% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 426% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Cuba ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
