Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, exports of tamping or compacting machinery in Latin America and the Caribbean reduced markedly to X units, shrinking by -36.8% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 210%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tamping machinery exports fell notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 177%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X units), Mexico (X units) and Guatemala (X units) was the main exporter of tamping or compacting machinery in Latin America and the Caribbean, mixing up 75% of total export. The Dominican Republic (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by El Salvador (X units). All these countries together held near 14% share of total exports. The following exporters - Chile (X units) and Argentina (X units) - each recorded a 3.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Argentina (with a CAGR of +24.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, the largest tamping machinery supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Argentina ($X), together comprising 72% of total exports.
Argentina, with a CAGR of +55.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -22.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 22%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per unit), while Guatemala ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Tamping Machinery Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of tamping or compacting machinery increased by 85% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tamping machinery imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Chile represented the key importing country with an import of about X units, which accounted for 38% of total imports. Venezuela (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Peru (X units), Brazil (X units) and Argentina (X units). All these countries together held near 38% share of total imports. Colombia (X units), Guatemala (X units), Costa Rica (X units), Ecuador (X units) and Honduras (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to tamping machinery imports into Chile stood at +9.6%. At the same time, Honduras (+11.3%), Costa Rica (+8.8%), Venezuela (+5.6%), Guatemala (+2.0%) and Peru (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Honduras emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +11.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-2.3%), Colombia (-5.4%), Brazil (-16.4%) and Ecuador (-16.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Costa Rica and Honduras increased by +26, +5.6, +3.4, +1.8 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Chile ($X), Venezuela ($X) and Peru ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 63% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Venezuela, with a CAGR of +15.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -21.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 32%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then shrank notably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Venezuela ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
