After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas decreased by -21.2% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, mandarin and clementine imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Brazil represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 30% of total imports. Paraguay (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mexico (13%), Panama (6.8%), Guatemala (4.8%), the Dominican Republic (4.7%), Colombia (4.6%) and Costa Rica (4.5%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mandarin and clementine imports into Brazil stood at +5.3%. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+274.0%), Paraguay (+45.6%), Mexico (+14.5%), Panama (+14.3%), Guatemala (+6.0%) and Costa Rica (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +274.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Colombia (-8.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Paraguay (+13 p.p.), Panama (+6.8 p.p.), Mexico (+6.8 p.p.) and the Dominican Republic (+4.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Brazil (-4.3 p.p.) and Colombia (-15.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and the Dominican Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 55% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, the Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +316.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 20% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
