From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tea imports stood at $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Chile prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 71% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), comprising a 5.2% share of total imports. Mexico (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of tea. At the same time, Peru (+9.5%), Colombia (+7.0%), Argentina (+4.3%) and Mexico (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +9.5% from 2012-2022. Trinidad and Tobago experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Peru increased by +3.2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tea in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 4.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Trinidad and Tobago, with a 2.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Chile amounted to +5.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (+1.6% per year) and Trinidad and Tobago (-0.3% per year).
