The Latin American television receiver market reached $X in 2022, surging by 2.2% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
For the third consecutive year, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded decline in shipments abroad of television receivers, which decreased by -16.5% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 27%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, television receiver exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Mexico prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 98% of total exports in 2022. Brazil (X units) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to television receiver exports from Mexico stood at -5.1%. At the same time, Brazil (+18.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +18.6% from 2012-2022. While the share of Brazil (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest television receiver supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 0.2% share of total exports.
In Mexico, television receiver exports plunged by an average annual rate of -3.6% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, television receiver export price increased by +125.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 35%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Brazil amounted to $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+1.6%).
Television Receiver Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, purchases abroad of television receivers decreased by -2.7% to X units, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 19%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, television receiver imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Mexico (X units), distantly followed by Colombia (X units), Argentina (X units), Chile (X units) and Peru (X units) were the main importers of television receivers, together comprising 76% of total imports. The following importers - Brazil (X units), Ecuador (X units), Guatemala (X units), Paraguay (X units), the Dominican Republic (X units), Costa Rica (X units) and Uruguay (X units) - together made up 16% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Argentina (with a CAGR of +11.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest television receiver importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Colombia ($X) and Peru ($X), together comprising 51% of total imports. Chile, Guatemala, Ecuador, Argentina, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Uruguay and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
Guatemala, with a CAGR of +5.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -14.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 22%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per unit), while Argentina ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Dominican Republic (-0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
