Toilet and kitchen linen exports soared to X units in 2021, picking up by 60% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Colombia represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which reached 52% of total exports. Brazil (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by El Salvador (14%) and Mexico (7.2%). The following exporters - Guatemala (X units) and Chile (X units) - together made up 5.8% of total exports.

Exports from Colombia increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mexico (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mexico emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +4.1% from 2012-2021. Guatemala and Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, El Salvador (-1.6%) and Chile (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Colombia (+13 p.p.) and Mexico (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Brazil (-1.9 p.p.), Chile (-2.4 p.p.) and El Salvador (-2.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Colombia ($X) remains the largest toilet and kitchen linen supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by El Salvador, with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Colombia stood at +2.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (-4.6% per year) and El Salvador (-0.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 4.1%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was El Salvador ($X per unit), while Guatemala ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by El Salvador (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of toilet and kitchen linen, when their volume increased by 62% to X units. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, toilet and kitchen linen imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Chile represented the key importer of toilet and kitchen linen in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was approx. 41% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X units), Costa Rica (X units) and Peru (X units), together generating a 27% share of total imports. The following importers - Panama (X units), Colombia (X units), Guatemala (X units), Uruguay (X units), El Salvador (X units), Nicaragua (X units), Ecuador (X units), Argentina (X units) and Venezuela (X units) - together made up 21% of total imports.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the toilet and kitchen linen imports, with a CAGR of +10.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ecuador (+10.0%), Mexico (+9.2%), El Salvador (+3.6%), Nicaragua (+3.4%), Guatemala (+3.0%), Costa Rica (+2.5%) and Uruguay (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Peru and Panama experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Colombia (-6.4%), Argentina (-7.0%) and Venezuela (-18.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+21 p.p.) and Mexico (+7.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Argentina (-2.4 p.p.), Colombia (-3.2 p.p.) and Venezuela (-10.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Mexico ($X) and Costa Rica ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mexico, with a CAGR of +7.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, falling by -4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Venezuela ($X per unit), while Nicaragua ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
