The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -1.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, exports of vegetables in vinegar other than potatoes in Latin America and the Caribbean surged to X tons, growing by 60% on the previous year. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 139%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vinegar-preserved vegetable exports surged to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 139% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Mexico represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), mixing up a 26% share of total exports. Honduras (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to vinegar-preserved vegetable exports from Mexico stood at -1.6%. At the same time, Peru (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +7.2% from 2012-2022. Honduras experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Guatemala (-1.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Peru (+13 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Mexico saw its share reduced by -11.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Peru ($X) and Honduras ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 95% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +9.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vinegar-preserved vegetable export price decreased by -20.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 59%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, the amount of vegetables in vinegar other than potatoes imported in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at X tons, increasing by 14% compared with 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +23.9% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 16%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, vinegar-preserved vegetable imports amounted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.2% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2022, Mexico (X tons), distantly followed by Chile (X tons), Brazil (X tons), El Salvador (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Honduras (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and the Dominican Republic (X tons) were the largest importers of vegetables in vinegar other than potatoes, together committing 74% of total imports. Panama (X tons), Cuba (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Panama (with a CAGR of +41.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest vinegar-preserved vegetable importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Chile ($X) and Brazil ($X), together comprising 42% of total imports. The Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.

Panama, with a CAGR of +43.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 9.4% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
