Imports into Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cayman Islands (+38.7%), Peru (+16.2%) and Guatemala (+10.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cayman Islands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +38.7% from 2012-2022. Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Colombia (-6.9%), Chile (-8.4%) and Argentina (-12.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (+20 p.p.), Cayman Islands (+3.8 p.p.), Peru (+3.2 p.p.) and Brazil (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Chile and Argentina saw its share reduced by -4% and -4.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported veneer sheets and sheets for plywood and other wood sawn lengthwise in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 3.3% share.
