In value terms, veneer sheets exports soared to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, overseas purchases of veneer sheets increased by 30% to X cubic meters, rising for the fourth consecutive year after four years of decline. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +96.6% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports into Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Honduras (+13.7%), Peru (+11.4%), Colombia (+3.7%) and Brazil (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Honduras emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +13.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ecuador (-3.6%) and Chile (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mexico (+20 p.p.), Honduras (+2.8 p.p.) and Peru (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Chile (-3.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported veneer sheets in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Honduras, with a 6.5% share.

In Mexico, veneer sheets imports increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+5.3% per year) and Honduras (+9.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country
