Laundry machine exports soared to X units in 2021, jumping by 195% compared with the previous year. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, laundry machine exports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 61%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Dominican Republic represented the major exporter of washing, bleaching or dyeing machines in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 58% of total exports in 2021. Honduras (X units) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Bolivia (10%), Mexico (7%) and Panama (6%). Chile (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from the Dominican Republic increased at an average annual rate of +39.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bolivia (+175.1%), Honduras (+44.8%) and Chile (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bolivia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +175.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Panama (-26.4%) and Mexico (-36.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Dominican Republic (+58 p.p.), Honduras (+11 p.p.), Bolivia (+10 p.p.) and Chile (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Panama and Mexico saw its share reduced by -10.8% and -69.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), the Dominican Republic ($X) and Honduras ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 76% share of total exports.

Honduras, with a CAGR of +51.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -69.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 77% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Bolivia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+21.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

For the third consecutive year, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded decline in supplies from abroad of washing, bleaching or dyeing machines, which decreased by -40.3% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, laundry machine imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X units) was the largest importer of washing, bleaching or dyeing machines, making up 39% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Chile (X units), Mexico (X units), Guatemala (X units) and Peru (X units), together comprising a 36% share of total imports. El Salvador (X units), the Dominican Republic (X units), Colombia (X units), Haiti (X units) and Cuba (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +19.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Haiti (+29.6%), Chile (+15.8%), the Dominican Republic (+5.4%) and Colombia (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Haiti emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +29.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Peru (-1.3%), Guatemala (-4.6%), Cuba (-5.1%), Mexico (-10.3%) and El Salvador (-15.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+35 p.p.), Chile (+12 p.p.), Haiti (+3 p.p.), Peru (+2.4 p.p.), the Dominican Republic (+2.3 p.p.), Colombia (+2.3 p.p.) and Guatemala (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mexico and El Salvador saw its share reduced by -3% and -4.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported washing, bleaching or dyeing machines in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (-3.2% per year) and Colombia (-0.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 87% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a moderate increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per unit), while Haiti ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
