Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +79.7% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 68%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X pairs, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, waterproof footwear exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a tangible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Ecuador was the largest exporter of waterproof footwear in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports finishing at X pairs, which was near 43% of total exports in 2022. Mexico (X pairs) took a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Dominican Republic (12%) and Guatemala (6.2%). The following exporters - Honduras (X pairs), Brazil (X pairs) and Peru (X pairs) - together made up 9.9% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +33.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Dominican Republic ($X) remains the largest waterproof footwear supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ecuador ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Guatemala, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Dominican Republic amounted to +49.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+2.9% per year) and Guatemala (+3.7% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per pair, rising by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per pair in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per pair), while Mexico ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, the amount of waterproof footwear imported in Latin America and the Caribbean fell to X pairs, flattening at 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X pairs in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, waterproof footwear imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 30%. Peru, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Uruguay, Guyana, Brazil, Bolivia and Trinidad and Tobago lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.

Among the main importing countries, Guatemala, with a CAGR of +6.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per pair in 2022, waning by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per pair in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
