In 2022, overseas shipments of wine of fresh grapes (except sparkling wine) decreased by -5.8% to X litres, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 8.3% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X litres. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wine of fresh grapes exports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 8.2% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Chile (X litres) represented the key exporter of wine of fresh grapes (except sparkling wine), creating 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X litres), mixing up a 23% share of total exports.
Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wine of fresh grapes (except sparkling wine) exports, with a CAGR of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022. Argentina (-3.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+10 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Argentina (-9.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest wine of fresh grapes supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 29% share of total exports.

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per litre, increasing by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 11%. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per litre), while Chile totaled $X per litre.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+2.4%).

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Wine of fresh grapes imports rose sharply to X litres in 2022, with an increase of 8.4% compared with 2021 figures. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +25.4% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, wine of fresh grapes imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +37.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Brazil represented the major importer of wine of fresh grapes (except sparkling wine) in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports accounting for X litres, which was near 38% of total imports in 2022. Mexico (X litres) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Colombia (5.9%), the Dominican Republic (5%) and Paraguay (4.7%). Peru (X litres), Ecuador (X litres), Costa Rica (X litres), Venezuela (X litres), Guatemala (X litres) and Jamaica (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Jamaica (+10.9%), the Dominican Republic (+9.6%), Guatemala (+9.4%), Ecuador (+8.2%), Mexico (+6.5%), Colombia (+4.6%), Peru (+4.6%) and Costa Rica (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jamaica emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +10.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Paraguay (-2.5%) and Venezuela (-6.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Brazil, Mexico and the Dominican Republic increased by +8.3, +2.3 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest wine of fresh grapes importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and the Dominican Republic ($X), with a combined 64% share of total imports. Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Ecuador, Guatemala, Venezuela and Jamaica lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.
Guatemala, with a CAGR of +10.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per litre, with an increase of 3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 6.8%. The level of import peaked at $X per litre in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per litre), while Jamaica ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
