The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a sharp decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 53%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X units), Lithuania (X units) and Iceland (X units) were the main destinations of exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Latvia, together comprising 80% of total exports. The Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia, Estonia and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +316.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 128% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible expansion. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Germany (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+35.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, imports saw a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 119% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 51%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Finland (X units), Estonia (X units) and Poland (X units) were the main suppliers of imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Latvia, with a combined 79% share of total imports. Germany, Lithuania, Denmark and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lithuania (with a CAGR of +37.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container suppliers to Latvia were Finland ($X), Estonia ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 78% share of total imports. Germany, Denmark, Lithuania and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +36.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average import price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -11.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 94%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while the price for Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
