From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ethiopia (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Latvia
In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of casein glues and caseinates and other casein derivatives, when their volume decreased by -94.1% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 344% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, casein glue and caseinates imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 392% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest casein glue and caseinates supplier to Latvia, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, casein glue and caseinates imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), fivefold. Lithuania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at -3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (-14.4% per year) and Lithuania (-15.4% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of casein glues and caseinates and other casein derivatives to Latvia, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany totaled -5.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bulgaria (+20.7% per year) and Hungary (-6.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average casein glue and caseinates import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 29%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+27.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
