Over the period under review, exports saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 117%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cauliflower and broccoli exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 124% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Estonia (X tons) was the main destination for cauliflower and broccoli exports from Latvia, accounting for a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, cauliflower and broccoli exports to Estonia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lithuania (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Estonia totaled +10.4%.

In general, export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cauliflower and broccoli export price increased by +25.7% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 91%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Cauliflower And Broccoli Imports

Imports into Latvia

For the fourth consecutive year, Latvia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of cauliflower and broccoli, which increased by 21% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, cauliflower and broccoli imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of cauliflower and broccoli imports to Latvia, together comprising 75% of total imports. Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +74.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cauliflower and broccoli import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -11.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
