Poland (X tons) was the main destination for dissolving grade wood pulp exports from Latvia, with a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, dissolving grade wood pulp exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2020 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Poland totaled +138.0%.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for dissolving grade wood pulp exports from Latvia, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 6.2% share of total exports.

From 2020 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Poland totaled +56.8%.

Export Prices by Country

The average dissolving grade wood pulp export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -34.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2020 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last two-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, dissolving grade wood pulp export price increased by +14.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 74% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland amounted to $X per ton.

From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (-13.1%).

The smallest decline of -99% was in 2013. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, Finland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dissolving grade wood pulp to Latvia, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 28% share of total imports.

Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
