Crude Oil Market Size in Latvia

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Latvian crude oil market, when its value increased by 40% to $X. In 2022, approx. X tons of crude petroleum oil were exported from Latvia; reducing by -70.4% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 182% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crude oil exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Lithuania (X tons), Estonia (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of crude oil exports from Latvia.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Estonia (with a CAGR of +27.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Estonia ($X), Lithuania ($X) and Ukraine ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for crude oil exported from Latvia worldwide.

Estonia, with a CAGR of +28.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average crude oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -89.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 112% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+30.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, purchases abroad of crude petroleum oil decreased by -99.7% to X tons, falling for the eighth year in a row after three years of growth. In general, imports faced a significant curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crude oil imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports faced a dramatic decrease. The smallest decline of -5.6% was in 2016. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons), Cyprus (X tons) and Estonia (X kg) were the main suppliers of crude oil imports to Latvia.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cyprus (with a CAGR of -56.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of crude petroleum oil to Latvia, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cyprus ($X), with a 25% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland totaled -84.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cyprus (-53.2% per year) and Estonia (-74.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average crude oil import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 160% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a resilient expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+90.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
