In 2022, overseas purchases of glutamic acid and its salts increased by 94% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 598% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, glutamic acid imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 426% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
