In 2022, overseas shipments of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades decreased by -49% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 164% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, homogenised jam and marmalade exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Estonia (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of homogenised jam and marmalade exports from Latvia, together accounting for 59% of total exports. Denmark, Sweden, South Korea, the Philippines, Ukraine and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +564.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for homogenised jam and marmalade exported from Latvia were Lithuania ($X), Estonia ($X) and Denmark ($X), with a combined 60% share of total exports. The Czech Republic, Sweden, South Korea, the Philippines, Ukraine and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
Sweden, with a CAGR of +534.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average homogenised jam and marmalade export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 25% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 73% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Homogenised Preparations Of Jams, Fruit Jellies And Marmalades
Imports into Latvia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades decreased by -31.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 56%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, homogenised jam and marmalade imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Lithuania (X tons), Austria (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of homogenised jam and marmalade imports to Latvia, with a combined 48% share of total imports. Sweden, Germany, Ukraine, Slovakia, Estonia, Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 49%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +820.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Austria ($X), Lithuania ($X) and Sweden ($X) constituted the largest homogenised jam and marmalade suppliers to Latvia, with a combined 53% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Germany, Estonia, Ukraine, Slovakia, Russia, Poland and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.
Ukraine, with a CAGR of +721.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average homogenised jam and marmalade import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, homogenised jam and marmalade import price increased by +22.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
