In 2022, purchases abroad of hypochlorites, commercial calcium hypochlorite, chlorites and hypobromites was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 54%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 57%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Estonia (X tons) constituted the largest hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites supplier to Latvia, accounting for a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites imports from Estonia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Lithuania (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Finland (X tons), with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Estonia totaled +63.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lithuania (-4.5% per year) and Finland (+9.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites suppliers to Latvia were Estonia ($X), Germany ($X) and Lithuania ($X), together accounting for 93% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Estonia, with a CAGR of +60.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
