In value terms, Estonia ($X) remains the key foreign market for malt exports from Latvia, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 7.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Estonia totaled +128.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+37.7% per year) and Lithuania (-6.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average malt export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+20.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, approx. X tons of malt were imported into Latvia; rising by 7.1% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 15%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Lithuania (X tons) constituted the largest malt supplier to Latvia, with a 90% share of total imports. Moreover, malt imports from Lithuania exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), more than tenfold. Austria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Lithuania stood at -3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+6.7% per year) and Austria (+2.2% per year).
In value terms, Lithuania ($X) constituted the largest supplier of malt to Latvia, comprising 86% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 4.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 3.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Lithuania amounted to -4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+6.1% per year) and Austria (-0.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average malt import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
