In 2022, after seven years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics, when their volume decreased by -45.2% to X tons. In general, exports, however, showed noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, exports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Russia (X tons), Estonia (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics from Latvia, together comprising 60% of total exports. The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, France, Finland, Belarus and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +200.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After five years of growth, purchases abroad of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics decreased by -16.3% to X tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 60%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In value terms, imports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +88.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Estonia (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of imports of non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics to Latvia, together accounting for 46% of total imports. Poland, Belarus, Italy, China, Russia, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, India and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +53.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics suppliers to Latvia were Estonia ($X), Germany ($X) and Lithuania ($X), together comprising 52% of total imports. Poland, Italy, Belarus, Russia, China, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, India and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +53.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average import price for non-cellular plates, sheets, film, foil and strip of plastics stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 4.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
