Orange Market Size in Latvia
The Latvian orange market shrank to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -5.4% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, total exports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -24.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. In value terms, orange exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -20.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 30%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Estonia (X tons) was the main destination for orange exports from Latvia, with a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, orange exports to Estonia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lithuania (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Estonia amounted to +3.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (+6.5% per year) and Belarus (+17.3% per year).
In value terms, Estonia ($X) remains the key foreign market for oranges exports from Latvia, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lithuania ($X), with a 29% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Estonia amounted to +2.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (+4.8% per year) and Belarus (+16.3% per year).

In 2022, the average orange export price amounted to $X per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (-0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Latvia
In 2022, the amount of oranges imported into Latvia shrank to X tons, waning by -8.4% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, orange imports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of orange imports to Latvia, together accounting for 74% of total imports. Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Italy and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +57.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Egypt ($X) constituted the largest orange suppliers to Latvia, together accounting for 72% of total imports. Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Italy and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Germany, with a CAGR of +50.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average orange import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
