Playing Cards Market Size in Latvia

The Latvian playing cards market soared to $X in 2022, jumping by 18% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption enjoyed prominent growth. Playing cards consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of playing cards decreased by -43.3% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports saw a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 198% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, playing cards exports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 166%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Lithuania (X tons), Estonia (X tons) and Peru (X kg) were the main destinations of playing cards exports from Latvia, together comprising 97% of total exports. These countries were followed by Georgia, which accounted for a further 2%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Georgia (with a CAGR of +25.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for playing cards exported from Latvia were Lithuania ($X), Estonia ($X) and Peru ($X), together accounting for 97% of total exports. Georgia lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 2.5%.

Georgia, with a CAGR of +10.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average playing cards export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, playing cards export price decreased by -0.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 51%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malta (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Playing Cards Imports

Imports into Latvia

In 2022, the amount of playing cards imported into Latvia reached X tons, approximately reflecting the previous year's figure. In general, imports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 75%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, playing cards imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 45%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons), Estonia (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of playing cards imports to Latvia, together accounting for 59% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +32.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of playing cards to Latvia, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Estonia ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland stood at +50.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Estonia (+10.9% per year) and the Netherlands (+23.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average playing cards import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -5.9% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, playing cards import price decreased by -22.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 91%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
