In general, exports saw a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 249% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cellulose fibrecement sheet exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 318%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Lithuania (X tons) was the main destination for cellulose fibrecement sheet exports from Latvia, with a 70% share of total exports. Moreover, cellulose fibrecement sheet exports to Lithuania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Estonia (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Lithuania stood at +35.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Estonia (-0.3% per year) and Norway (-51.3% per year).

In value terms, Lithuania ($X) remains the key foreign market for sheets, panels and tiles of cellulose fibrecement exports from Latvia, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Estonia ($X), with a 28% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Lithuania stood at +37.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Estonia (+0.8% per year) and Norway (-48.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average cellulose fibrecement sheet export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 31% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible descent. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+13.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Latvia

For the third consecutive year, Latvia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of sheets, panels and tiles of cellulose fibrecement, which increased by 41% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a resilient increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cellulose fibrecement sheet imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 94%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Lithuania (X tons) constituted the largest cellulose fibrecement sheet supplier to Latvia, accounting for a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, cellulose fibrecement sheet imports from Lithuania exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Finland (X tons), fourfold. Ukraine (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Lithuania stood at +16.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Finland (+15.4% per year) and Ukraine (-1.8% per year).

In value terms, Lithuania ($X), Finland ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the largest cellulose fibrecement sheet suppliers to Latvia, with a combined 90% share of total imports.

Finland, with a CAGR of +16.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average cellulose fibrecement sheet import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -18.4% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cellulose fibrecement sheet import price increased by +37.4% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 51%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
