The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 313% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sulphur imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 544% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) constituted the largest sulphur supplier to Latvia, accounting for a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphur imports from Kazakhstan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Lithuania (X tons), with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Kazakhstan was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+14.8% per year) and Lithuania (+25.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest sulphur suppliers to Latvia were Lithuania ($X), Austria ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), with a combined 81% share of total imports. Poland and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
