Marble and travertine imports into Libya skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, jumping by 81% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 137% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, marble and travertine imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a sharp decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 132% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Greece (X tons) constituted the largest marble and travertine supplier to Libya, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, marble and travertine imports from Greece exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), twofold. Tunisia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Greece totaled -12.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-7.5% per year) and Tunisia (-17.7% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 17%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
