Potato Market Size in Libya

The Libyan potato market reduced slightly to $X in 2021, waning by -1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, potato exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 1,284%. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Tunisia (X tons) was the main destination for potato exports from Libya, with a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, potato exports to Tunisia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kuwait (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Tunisia totaled +14.5%.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the key foreign market for potato exports from Libya, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 7.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Tunisia amounted to +23.6%.

The average potato export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a modest increase. Imports into Libya

Potato imports into Libya dropped dramatically to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -21% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 131%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, potato imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 173%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
